12:15 pm | Keynote: Enabling the Connected Home...From Vision to Reality The "Internet of Things" is transforming today's residential homes with increased intelligence, interconnectivity, and value-added services. Cloud is the platform that will host new applications and services, connecting televisions, computers, and mobile devices to home systems, smart meters, and appliances. The connected home will gain increased efficiencies and benefits around: entertainment: video on-demand, video communication, personalized services; safety and security: sensors, actuators, and cameras that home owners can access via their smartphones; energy management: real-time feedback on heating and electricity consumption; health and well-being: monitor and analyze data on health, therapies, diet, etc. IBM is working with multiple partners to enable the connected home. With Vodafone, IBM is working to combine mobile technologies with cloud computing to enable the remote management of smarter home appliances and services. With STMicroelectronics and Shaspa, IBM is working to use cloud and mobile computing to enable home control using voice recognition and physical gestures. With NexStep, IBM's SmartCloudTM service delivery platform is further advanced with customized services from NexStep Cloud Concierge software and middleware. Through partner ecosystems and advanced cloud technology, IBM is committed make the connected home a reality…delivering "Innovation that matters, for our company and for the world."
